Access to justice when it matters most
Women arriving at refuge often face multiple urgent legal issues — including family law, intervention orders, tenancy matters, fines and Victims of Crime processes.
Emerge’s Legal Health at Refuge program embeds legal support directly within refuge accommodation, ensuring women can access advice and advocacy when they need it most.
Legal support for women
In partnership with Peninsula Community Legal Centre, and funded by Kingston City Council, experienced duty lawyers provide confidential, onsite legal support that helps women:
- understand their rights
- navigate complex legal processes
- access appropriate legal services
- make informed decisions for themselves and their children

Safer legal pathways
This innovative model reduces stress, improves legal outcomes and strengthens safety for families rebuilding their lives.
Support for this program helps ensure women have access to justice and the legal protections they need to rebuild safely.
